Leroy Davis Obituary


LEROY departed this life on Sunday afternoon, December 15, 2019, at a family residence in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was born on October 4, 1941, in Orangeburg County, the fourth child of eight siblings, to the late Mamie Johnson Davis and Frank Davis, Sr.
He received his early education at Bethune Memorial High School in Bowman, South Carolina and later graduated from Wilkinson High School, Orangeburg, South Carolina. He later received his Technology Degree from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Orangeburg, South Carolina.
He was married to Blondell Jamison-Davis on September 22, 1962. To this union, three children were born. In their home, they also raised an abun- dance of family members.
He worked for Mutch’s Bakery, Greenwood Mills, U. S. Plywood, Smith Corona Electrical Corporation, and Mayer Industries over 49 years and just one week shy of 50 years.
LEROY affiliated himself with Andrew Chapel Baptist Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina at an early age.
He loved all sports!!! He was a die-hard Atlanta Braves, SCSU and a true Bowman Mohawk Fan. He traveled in and out of state to show his support for all teams. He took great pride in supporting all of the children in the family. He truly devoted tireless hours COACHING IN THE STANDS.
He enjoyed fellowshipping with his family and friends while attending several Johnson-Grant Family Reunions over the years. He looked forward to our Family Christmas Dinners every year as well as all other family functions. He loved listening to gospel music on the radio every Sunday morning.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Learline Davis Albury, Luella Davis, Elizabeth D. Evans; and his brother, Eddie “Willie” Davis; his brother-in-laws, Andrew L. Davis and Nesbert (Pop) Davis; and one nephew Timothy (Ned) Evans.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: a loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Blondell Davis; one daughter: Mamie (Wilbur) Huggins, Orangeburg, South Carolina; two sons: Kenneth Davis (Evonne Toland), North, South Carolina, and Elder James (Katinia) Davis, Elgin, South Carolina; four grandchildren: LaShanna Davis and Marquis Huggins both of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Arcamia Smith of Columbia, South Carolina and Andrea Davis of Elgin, South Carolina; seven great-grandchildren: Haili Holmes, Alauni Davis, Za’Riyah Smith, Dylan Davis, Ramel Hopkins, Lamar (Quan) Green, and Rondriekas (RJ) Darby; one adopted daughter: Tracey Jenkins (Edgar) Kollison of Bowie, Maryland; two sisters-in-law reared in the home: Elizabeth Davis Hopkins and Carolyn Davis (Anthony) Ander- son and one brother-in-law also reared in the home: Benjamin Davis (Cynthia) all of Orangeburg, South Carolina; two nieces reared in the home: Valerie Hopkins-Darby of Orangeburg, South Carolina and Davida Hopkins of Columbia, South Carolina; one sister: Bessie Pearl Davis of Orangeburg, South Carolina; two brothers: Frank (Sarah) Davis, Jr. of Cordova, South Carolina, and James (Ruby) Davis of Orangeburg, South Carolina; sister-in-law: Catherine Davis of Orangeburg, South Carolina. A host of brothers and sisters-in-laws, special nieces: Jovondia Jones, Fonta Allen, and Kimberly Mays as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, grand -nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces, great-grand-nephews, other family and friends.

 

 

The viewing will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Glover’s Funeral Home at 2:00pm until 8:00pm. 
 

The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Andrews Chapel Baptist Church located at 3670 Five  Chop Rd in Orangeburg, South Carolina 29118 beginning at 11:00am.
