John Mims Obituary

John Wesley Mims, better known to some as, “Teddy Bear” and to others, “Bing.” He was born October 12, 1948 in Rowes- ville, South Carolina, to the late Lewis, Sr. and Marie Morgen. He departed this life on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
John was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church. Upon the closing of Central, he became a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Rowesville, SC. He was a member of the Senior Choir.
John was a 1968 graduate of Wilkinson High School and received his Electrical Certification from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
John was drafted into the United States Marines and served two years.
Returning home, John met the love of his life, Beulah Mae Duley and the two joined in holy matrimony in 1970.
He was employed at Greenwood Mills for several years before transferring to the Orangeburg Complex. There he later retired as a construction worker. He was known as a “Jack of all Trades.”
To this union four children were born: Charles Wesley (Angie) Mims, Tony Rodiques (Lashawn) Mims, Todd Anthony (Stacie) Mims, and Elaine Marie Mims all of Orangeburg, SC.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Ma- mie Tucker-Govan; and one brother: Thomas Tucker.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories two brothers: Lewis (Cynthia) Mims of St. Matthews, SC and Lucius Mims of Rowesville, SC; two sisters: Lindell (Edward) Ellis of Motown, NJ and Doris (Lawrence) Duley of Rowesville, SC; Tony’s 5 kids: Dynasty, Acacia, Shalon, Shamar and Kayden Mims; Todd’s 4 kids: Dorian, Tiarah, Karmen and Camille Mims; Elaine’s 1 child: Logan Mims; two brothers-in-law: Jeff (Cora) Duley of Detroit, and George Stokes of Orangeburg, SC; three sisters-in-law: Lillie Bell Russell and Betty Bowman of Orangeburg, SC and Adlene Summers of Rowesville, SC.

 

the service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Prospect Baptist Church locates at 7640 Charleston Hwy in Rowesville, South Carolina 29018
