Mr. Joe Walker Larkin or “Woodie” as he was called, was born on May 8, 1936 as an identical twin son to Samuel and Daisy Larkin, Sr. in Orangeburg, SC. He departed this life on August 22, 2019 at Calvary hospital in the Bronx New York after an extended illness.
Woodie grew up in the North Road community and attended meal branch school. He was a member of Saint Stephens United Methodist Church. In December 1954, Woodie joined the United States Navy and completed four years of active duty and four years in the reserves. In addition to his service to our country would he work for the Housing Authority in Brooklyn New York as a cab driver and finally as a truck driver. Woodie loved gardening, fishing, talking about his days in the Navy and talking about his Lord and Savior
Loved ones who cleared the path for Woodie’s transition were his parents, three sisters: Lillie, Daisy Lou and Evelyn; five brothers: Samuel Jr., Julius, Lucius, Charlie and Rex (his twin) and one grandson Lincoln L. White.
Woodie is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Emma (Henry) B. White, Sr., two grandsons: H. Bernard (Sahara) White Jr., and Bryant (Megan) White; four granddaughters: Shakeri, Shantavia, Ashley and Shaekile White: 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The services will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Glover’s Funeral Home at 2:00pm until 8:00pm.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 2, 2019 at St. Stephens United Methodists Church located at 4500 North Road in Orangeburg, South Carolina beginning at 11:00am.
