Janni Lou Brookard-Reed

Jannie Lou Bookard-Reed , daughter of the late Rommie (Jim) and Zena Bookard, was born May 3, 1941 in Orangeburg County. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the Lexing- ton Medical Center.
Jannie was educated in the public schools of Bowman. SC. She worked at Bowcar Industries that later changed to Hansley Industries until its closing. After which she became self employed as a house keeper until he retirement. She was a member of Bowman Temple COGIC where she joined in the early 1970’s under the leadership of Pastor Jacob Dantzler where she became converted. Other pastors she served under included interim Pastor William Prilou, Pastor Alonzo Johnson and most recently she served under the leadership of Pastor Leon Ross. She worked in the Sunday school department, the hospitali- ty department, as an usher, a choir member and assisted in other areas in the church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and baking cakes for everyone. She is known for her famous fruit cakes and nut cakes. She loved her family and church so much that she was often found talking about them.
Jannie was married to Nathaniel Reed who preceded her in death. To this union seven children were born. One son, John H. Reed, also pre- ceded her in death.
Jannie leaves to cherish her fond memories six children: Carolyn (Jessie) Johnson and Nathaniel Reed of Rowesville SC, Barbara Reed of Columbia SC, Anthony Reed of Bowman SC, Mary Banks of Orangeburg SC and Michael Reed of Jacksonville FL; one daughter-in- law: Lavern Reed; one sister: Evangelist Lillie Sowell of Orangeburg SC; three brothers: James A. Bookard of Orangeburg SC, Johnny Clay Bookard of Maryland and Raymond Bookard of Bowman, SC; 16 grandchildren, one who preceded her in death, 31 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

The services will proceed as follows;

The viewing will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Glover’s Funeral Home at 1:00pm until 8:00pm. 
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Bowman Temple Church of God in Christ located at 315 Bowman Ave Bowman,SC 29018 beginning at 1:00pm
