Dorothy Hughes Obituary

Dorothy (Dottie) Beatrice Walters Hughes, was born on June 5, 1924 to the late George Theoff and Eva Johnson Walters in Bowman, South Carolina. She transitioned to eternal rest on June 19, 2019, at her home in Brooklyn, New York following an extended illness.

Dorothy (Dottie) received her formal education in the Dorchester Country School System. Afterwards, she relocated to Brooklyn, New York where she was employed by several private companies until her employment with the Edwin B. Stimpson Company as a tool and dye machine operator. She worked for Stimpson Company for over twenty years until her retirement. She loved cooking and it brought her much pleasure when she saw everyone enjoying all the food and desserts, she prepared for them. If it appeared someone wasn't enjoying themselves, she would quickly asked "Is there something wrong?" Other pleasures of hers were playing bid whist, dancing, traveling with her friends to Atlantic City, NJ and playing bingo. She played with at least 10 bingo cards and was still able to let you know when you had missed a number.

Dorothy (Dottie) was a member of Life Christian Fellowship Church in Brooklyn, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernes Hughes and son Stanley McDaniels. She had 10 siblings who preceded her in death.

Dorothy (Dottie) leaves to cherish her memories: brothers, Raymond (Alberta) Walters and John Wesley Walters of Orangeburg, SC, granddaughter Erica MCDaniels-Williams, great-grandson, Sean Williams, Jr. both of Coral Springs, Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
