Bernice Jones , 87, was born on October 28, 1931 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late Herbert Cobbs and Annie Mae Jones. She departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Catherine Manor Number Two Residential Care Facility in Orangeburg,
South Carolina.
Bernice was educated in the Orangeburg County Public School System. During this time, Bernice sung with the Holy Lights on the Radio Station on Sunday mornings. She later moved to New York where she was employed at the Presbyterian Hospital for 30 years as a lab technician. After retiring, she moved back to Orangeburg, SC and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church until her health failed in 2008.
Bernice was the oldest of eight siblings. She was a devoted sister, aunt and friend. Just a loveable and kind person, she enjoyed cooking, reading and listening to music. She also enjoyed civil rights movies. Bernice loved her family and friends.
Bernice leaves to cherish her fond and precious memo- ries three brothers: James Cobbs (Eva Mae, deceased), Herbert (Josephine) Cobbs and Abdulla (Ann) Akhab; four sisters: Lugenia Sistrunk (Hezekiah Sr., deceased), Lillie (Reverend Marvin, Sr.) King, Jessie (John) Rob- inson and Annie Louise Cobbs (Earl Phillips, deceased) and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
The services will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Glover’s Funeral Home at 12:00pm until 8:00pm.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church located at 3355 North Road in Orangeburg, South Carolina 29115 beginning at 11:00am.
