Born to Solomon Dukes and Beulah Robinson, on April 19, 1925 in Calhoun County, South Carolina, Allen Dukes Sr. was loved and cherished by all. He passed away in Orangeburg, South Carolina on January 19, 2019 at the age of 93.
Allen had an abundant life - he served in the Navy during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1946. After his military service, he married the late Zeta Mae Snyder in 1946 and had two children Allen Dukes, Jr. and Margaret Wyman. He remarried in 1968 to Ruby Davis who died in 1997. Allen also worked at Dell Airplane Motor, Shell Company and retired from the New York City Housing Authority as a professional painter in 1990. He had many interests, including baseball, gardening, cooking and fishing, which didn't compare to his love of keeping up with the latest weather reports on the news. Allen was also an AME Board Trustee member. He was a true gentleman who loved unconditionally.
He leaves as his legacy his son Allen Dukes Jr. and daughter-in-law Laroma Dukes of Mamaroneck, NY. He also leaves to cherish his memory 3 grandchildren, Lyndell Fraser of Ellenwood, GA, Anastasia Dukes-Asuen of Hopewell Junction, NY and Alanna Dukes of Bronx, NY, 2 great-grandchildren, and 3 siblings, Marion Dukes, Frank Dukes, Minister Hester Whetstone, brother- in-law Lucas Whetstone and sister-in-law Eva Dukes. Also many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Wyman of Bronx, NY, sister Ida Dukes of New York, NY, Classia Dukes of Orangeburg, SC, James Dukes of Elloree, SC, and Harmon Dukes of Orangeburg, SC.
Services will be as follows:
The viewing will take place at Glover's Funeral Home on February 1, 2019 from 1:00pm until 8:00pm.
The funeral service will be held at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church located at 1787 Old Number Six Highway in Creston, SC 29030 on February 2, 2019 at 11:00am.
