Lula Mae Seabrooks was born in Rowesville, SC on December 12, 1937 to Mr. and Mrs. Julius Seabrooks. When she was a young child the family moved to Orangeburg, SC.
She was educated in the Orangeburg Public School system. She graduated from Wilkinson High School Class of 1955. Upon graduation from high school, Lula went on to continue her education at Benedict College.
Lula graduated from Cheyney University, PA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Child Education. She also received her Master’s Degree from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. She also obtained 30 plus credit hours and a principal’s certificate. She worked for the Philadelphia School District for 32 years as a teacher and then later as a vice principal before retirement. Upon retirement in 2005, she moved back home, leaving Philadelphia to return to Orangeburg.
She met and married her college sweet heart Levi S. Jones. To this union two daughters were born Cheryl Denise and Pamela Yvette.
Lula was an active member of William Chapel AME Church. She also was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated and a member of the Beta Zeta Omega graduate chapter.
Her favorite past times involved spending time with her grandson Julian “Ju-Ju”, cooking, shopping, gardening, watching sports, the news, home décor shows, as well as reading the newspapers and books daily. She was known to cook delectable southern meals from scratch. Her specialties from scratch included fried chicken, chopped barbeque, potato salad, biscuits, and sweet potato pies.
Lula was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband: Levi S. Jones, siblings: Willie Seabrooks, Julius Seabrooks, John Wesley Seabrooks, Minnie L. Taylor, Ernestine Johnson, Delores Mckenzie, and Elaine Butler.
She leaves to celebrate & cherish her memory, daughters, Cheryl Denise Jones, Pamela Yvette Jones, grandson Julian Levi Jones, great granddaughter Jules Lauren Jones, as well as a host of extended family members, friends including lifelong friends including Juneille Grant, Dottie Brown and Vera Graham.
The service will proceed as follows:
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Glover's Funeral Home 2-6
The service will be held on Thursday, March 21,2024 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 12:00noon. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
